American Heart Association (AHA) Classes
What is CPR/BLS, ACLS and PALS?
CPR is an abbreviation for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), CPR “is an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating” (2020).
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique that helps keep blood flowing to the heart and brain after the heart stops beating. Knowing CPR can save the life of a loved one, a child, or a friend. It increases a person’s chance of survival. Anyone of almost any age can learn CPR. Students in this class learn lifesaving and choking techniques for adults, children, and infants. First aid is also included with the CPR class.
Basic life support (BLS) includes CPR, but is considered a higher level of care performed by healthcare and public safety professionals. It is more in-depth than CPR class, and includes an initial assessment, airway maintenance, plus chest compressions.
Advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) builds on BLS. Therefore, BLS is a prerequisite for ACLS. ACLS includes the recognition of heart rhythms and the administration of medications. This also includes management of strokes and heart attacks.
Pediatric advanced life support (PALS) is geared towards healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course.

Basic Life Support
The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

Certified CPR Training
Learn how to save a life today. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique of providing compressions and ventilations to a victim of cardiac arrest. CPR works by rescuers providing chest compressions and ventilations to maximize blood and oxygen saturation to vital organs in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). If CPR is administered within the first 3-5 minutes, it significantly increases survivability after a SCA by providing crucial blood flow and oxygen to the heart and brain.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support
The AHA’s ACLS course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). For healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies and for personnel in emergency response.
